You'll also unlock a few extra game modes after completing your first playthrough. Some people have commented that the attack speed on weapons is very slow, but this is also a matter of choosing the right approach for the task at hand. Similarly, if you choose them well, a fight that seems very difficult will be a walk in the park. Even so, the various obstacles, items, equipment, and magic that you encounter keep it a fresh experience to the point that no matter how far you get or how many items you have, if you use the wrong ones against the enemies you're fighting, you'll have an impossible time. One playthrough is actually fairly short all things considered, maybe 5-10 hours if you are thorough, and only a couple hours if you speed through. I don't know if I will come back to the game to complete these. There is also an optional quest you have to complete to get an ending that makes the game much harder if you decide to complete it. There are a couple of achievements/endings locked behind playing on "hardcore" mode in which you lose your save file when you die and cannot manually save during the game (autosaves only). So, if you are into cute girls with cute anime style, with a bit of a metroidvania and survival-style game, Lost Ruins is definitely a must-try!! Hats off to only 2 developers of this wonderful game!Ĭute and fun game but has a very steep learning curve and punishing early game. Overall, the game has a great replay value.įinally, watch out for multiple endings of the game (3 of them, as I read online). I also particularly love how the game offers you a variety of play styles, You can beat the game through brute force of weapons, or cunningly cheese the enemies from afar with bows, or backstabbing them with daggers, or wisely defeat them with a variety of spells that counter their weaknesses. The platformer elements and puzzles of the game is solid, yet somewhat easy at times. The overall enemy AI is great, and it surely gives you a hard time battling through. It might get bored after a while, and some details and parts of the environment are hard to see.įor the gameplay, it really challenges you with lots of traps, combos from monsters and bosses. The only downside, I think, is the environment design. The graphic elements of the boss fights are top-notch for pixel-art game standards. The characters, the monsters are pretty distinguishable and attractive. Aside, the pixel art looks pretty great, too. But, surprisingly, this game offers a lot more, and it totally took me by surprise of its unexpected great quality.įor the game art, it really blows me away! The game will definitely please fans of cute anime art style with its awesome 2D illustrations of the characters. This might look like a simple pixel-art indie game at first.
